I made a mistake, i painted a lizard i saw in California, in a setting i saw in Arizona. The Western Fence Lizard is found in many different habitats, though generally avoid the harsh desert and are often found near water. I painted this on a beautiful and incredibly hot day on some BLM land on the outskirts of Phoenix. I feel like a fish out of water in the heat of the desert, but am learning to really appreciate the unique beauty and life that is found there.
Turns out i am much like this Lizard, out of place in deserts, or places not by water... but that was the nature of our 2019 van trip after all: discovering where we fit, and what feels like 'home', and learning to appreciate the unique lifestyles that each person chooses.
